In fact all Entrepreneurs and Professionals need Coaches.
Corporates invest a lot in coaching their Managers to groom them for leadership. Good coaching has a direct result on improving performance and thereby the bottom line. I know because I am one such coach.
But why don’t Investors get coaches for their founders?
A 20 or 30-something person with a great idea gets funding. Does well. All of a sudden, the room where co-founders, the packing department, the accountant, even the office boy used to sit together has now become the ‘Board Room’. Who has time to learn the difference between good and bad touch. Isn’t a phone call `full disclosure’? And I did say sorry didn’t I? What do you mean there will be an investigation? Hello….can we talk about the GMV instead? Because till yesterday, that’s all you guys worried about! Now all of sudden you are worried about my conduct? Why didn’t you tell me? C’mon it was just a few drinks at the pub?!!! Leadership presence???? What’s that? Why do Travis Kalanick and others have to get into deep trouble before they realize they need a coach?
It is lonely being an entrepreneur or a senior professional. Fortune has many friends. But most of them don’t have the right experience to guide you properly. Its easy to lose your moral compass. Too much money, too much fame, the spotlight, everyone can’t handle it.
That’s when good coaching is required. An experienced coach who has been there, done that. Who can be your sounding board and be there not just as a coach, but a friend, and guide.
Because, when good times come, the entrepreneur has a lot of support. But bad times have a habit of just sneaking up on you. And thats why a coach can sound the warning bells for impending disasters. And discuss corrective action. Investors must get coaches for their founders and teams. Its not an expense. Its part of the investment.

First for some years coaching used to be rich man’s game. Only top people used to get coaching. Now coaching is becoming common and author shows why its importance.

Family friends cannot pie good advice for sure, Prashant Sharma is right. Coach can given objective advice and talks and motivation. I have taken coaching and can say it made 2x difference to my life and career especially.
