Will they ever find who was responsible for forgetting that cup in the GOT scene? Or will Starbucks make that person their Head of Marketing? Even non GOT viewers by now know that gourmet coffee was a thing in the medieval times. Ever wondered why some mistakes are forgiven and others aren’t. Stuff that you felt is no big deal is actually made out to be one. And where you thought f**k(now I’m screwed), it was ignored.
I think it has to do with what’s at stake for the person who spots the mistake. If it’s no big deal to them, then generally it’s no big deal. Period. So is it a matter of luck? Maybe. Or incompetence?
If a Game of Thrones episode costing millions and millions of dollars can have a Starbucks cup in it, why can’t you be forgiven for a not removing the source of the image in the ppt? Or changing the date in a cut and paste job? Or oops… failing to remove a competitor’s logo in your product presentation!
Some mistakes are inexcusable, those that make your managers look bad in front their managers. Dont ever make them irrespective of whatever advice you get about learning from failure and so on.
So when someone tells you its ok to fail, make sure you check whether they have anything at stake in your mistake or not?
Else to coin a phrase; make no mistake…it’s just another motivational quote!
